FAQs

+ Q1. What varieties of photo sessions do you offer?

I specialize in maternity, newborn, babies first year, and family sessions.

+ Q2. Can I meet Ann Peyton or come visit the studio prior to the photo session?

Absolutely! I would love to meet you in person and give you a tour of my studio. You can then see firsthand my beautiful and creative selection of wraps, props, etc. and feel comfortable in my studio space.

+ Q3. How old are the newborns you typically photograph?

It is ideal to photograph newborns between 4-14 days old. Even though it may seem soon to bring them in for a photo session, babies are sleeping 18 hours a day and remain in that wonderful “curl” from the womb. As babies grow, they begin to push their limbs out more and are awake for longer periods of time. If your baby is older than 14 days, don’t feel you have missed the opportunity. The session will likely take a little bit longer, but I am still able to get amazing photographs.

+ Q4. What is the temperature in the studio area?

I keep the studio very warm, between 80-85 degrees F. This is an important factor in keeping your baby cozy and sleeping.

+ Q5. What happens if my baby has an “accident” during the session?

Don’t worry – this is completely normal and expected! I am a mother of two and have been through it all. I want you to just sit back, relax and let me handle everything.

+ Q6. What happens if my baby starts crying or gets fussy?

It is also completely normal for your baby to wake up during the photo session and sometimes get a little fussy. I will continue to work through the fussiness with warmth, rocking, patience and love. Your baby will likely need to be fed at some point during the session. At that point, we will take a break and you will be able to give your baby a full feeding.

+ Q7. My newborn’s skin is blotchy or flaky, should I wait longer before having the photo shoot?

There is no need to wait! Most newborns experience some sort of skin change – whether it is newborn acne, dry patches, temporary blotchiness/flakiness, blemishes, or jaundice. I am professionally trained and skilled in retouching photos, removing any of the above issues to ensure your newborn has nice even skin tones.

+ Q8. How long will the newborn photo session last? If a session takes longer, what happens next?

A typical newborn session lasts around 2-3 hours. The reason for this length of time is because I work on “baby time.” I take time to make sure your baby is perfectly posed and hands and feet look relaxed. There can be a lot of breaks, i.e., feeding when necessary or just general soothing of your baby to get them in a deep sleep. I don’t want to rush, so I arrange for plenty of time. I would never want to end a session because we ran out of time. If your baby needs time, he or she gets it!

On some occasions, the session does take longer than 3 hours. Usually after two (2) hours, I will know where we stand and how much we have managed to capture. We can discuss whether another hour – after the 3- hour point – is necessary. We will make this decision together. The cost for an additional hour is $65.

+ Q9. What is the best time to schedule a Maternity Session?

The best time to book your maternity session is between the 32nd – 36th week of pregnancy. It is around this time that your baby belly will [need words here] nice and full

Customizing the session – From the information I gather during your consultation, I understand what you are looking for in a photo session: from what you love and what you dislike to color accents and designs in your home. This information is important so I can make sure to use (or not use) those colors, props, wraps in your session this way your images will hang beautifully in your home and match your home décor style.

No, you can view your images and decide how you would like to purchase your digital, print or product options. Feel free to review the different packages and print or product options available

+ Q15 How many people may attend the photo session?

My studio has a comfortable and relaxing client area. Space is limited with room for 5 people to sit.

+ Q16 Why should I hire a professional to photograph my newborn?

POSING and SAFETY: As a parent, the #1 priority is knowing your child is safe. One of the most important qualifications for a newborn photographer (and any photographer for that matter) is their ability and experience in handling and posing a newborn safely. You are handing your days old baby to a photographer to hold, soothe, pose in and on props. You need to have the complete confidence that this person knows that they are doing, just as you would with a mid-wife or doctor. I am a highly trained and skilled newborn photographer with years of experience in posing babies that will always guarantee their safety while capturing adorable poses like baby’s hands on the chin, and placing babies into props likes buckets or crates.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: As a professional photographer for over 10 years, I know exactly how to capture the very best images. My formal education in photography and studio lighting as well as continuing professional courses, workshops accentuate my own innate creative skills. My business mission and vision, with every photo session, is to capture the highest quality images for my clients. I am a proud member of the Professional Photographers of America.

TIME – Professional photography is a time and labor intensive career. The time spent for one session can range from 15-26 hours. I dedicate every moment below to ensure your photography session with me is a wonderful experience. Besides the time working at a session, there is a minimum of 10+ hours behind the scenes that a client does not see. In general, a newborn session from start to finish looks like this:

• 1 hour – Set up the studio

• 3-5 hours – Session time (includes the possibility of a reshoot in case the baby is having difficulties)

• 8-16 hours – Upload and back up photos, Cull and edit photos (color correction, toning and retouching.

• 3-4 hours – Set up gallery, including slide show presentation; prepare images for client order; package and ship.

+ Q17 Will you come to my home for the newborn photo session?

My home studio is specifically designed for newborn sessions. From a time and practicality standpoint, it will cost both of us a lot more to set up and photograph in your home and you would have a lot less flexibility with prop choices and lighting. You will receive a better result from the photography being taken in a dedicated studio.

+ Q18 What dates and times do you book newborn sessions?

Newborn sessions are booked Monday-Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. (and only one session per day). I am aware that this time is early, but it is scheduled purposefully. Newborns sleep much more soundly in the morning, before the rest of the day has had a chance to wear on them. Booking sessions during this time of day will create a better opportunity for the baby to sleep more soundly and look relaxed.
